Fridays with Finley {22nd March 2013}

Dear loved ones,

We hope this email finds you happy and well. We love and miss each of you.

We've had a much needed and settled quiet week following Levi's work trip to Adelaide, which took him away the week before. Daddy's absence seem to cause a bit of a rebellion in Finley! He found his voice and started to exert some more independence. It made me very grateful for my husband and empathy for those who do it alone. I think we are fast approaching toddlerhood and I hope we are ready!

Finley has reached a few milestones this week - he is almost feeding himself with a spoon, a necessity as he was refusing it from us. We've also moved him from his highchair to a seat with us at the table. He loves it! And it's nice to have a meal all together. He also pulled himself up to standing for the first time, which took quite a bit of exertion and he wasn't all that keen to repeat the process (see video - excuse the angle). He has persevered  though and is gradually mastering it. We don't think he will be walking before he is 1 as he seems quite content with his breast stroke crawl to get around. We will have to wait and see when he decides to takes the plunge.

It is 1st Birthday central around here. Finley attended the first party for his little friends Ava and Tammy. It's quite hilarious watching 15 almost 1 year olds crawl all over each other. We are getting ready for Finley's turn, we are keeping it simple with a watermelon theme, a BBQ and a cake built out of watermelon and other fruit - hopefully the cake works out. It's hard to believe a whole year has passed already.

Lots of love,

Jade xo

Fridays with Finley {8th March 2013}

Hello dearest family and friends,
We hope this letter finds each of you well. We are great, happy to be home from our Perth adventure and settling back into life however so glad that we finally made it over there and had such a wonderful experience.
Perth was hot! But we took refuge in the cool South for the first 5 days of our journey visiting beautiful coast land, farms and with friends with farms from my mission. The trip heavily featured farm animals and Finley loved it! His favourite animals are definitely birds though, he squeals in delight following them through the trees. Everywhere we went we saw fairy wrens and would coax them with food to where we were eating - much to Finley's delight. Bottom of his list are rabbits - understandable after one mistook his finger for food and nipped him (ouch!).
For the latter part of our trip we caught up with friends and family which was lovely and the primary purpose of the trip. We are so glad we made it over and enjoyed spending time together as a family seeing beautiful places and people.
Finley traveled like the trouper he has. He was definitely the favourite passenger on the plane with people asking if they could hold him on both legs of the flight. It was fantastic! A break for us and they loved him! An Islamic lady had him for a whole hour, getting him to sleep (amazing) and an Indian family passed him amongst each other for a good half hour - brilliant! We were grateful for the help and having such a charmer of a son.
We have retired from travel for at least the next year, so looking forward to exploring more locally and enjoying home. Finley grows and changes so rapidly we want to ensure we cherish the moments. A reminder that his 1st Birthday is coming up on Saturday April 13th and you are all invited to his party : )
Love to all,
