Mum and Dad came in the perfect year. The stars aligned on lots of great events and sites with the 150th Anniversary of Canada including the Tall Ships Festival which only comes to Halifax once every four years. Our first experience seeing them was in Halifax and then later we saw a few again in Louisbourg on our weekend visit up there.
The Halifax waterfront is a really cool place in the summer and even more incredible with tall ships from around the world lining the shore. We started our day off at the Sea Port markets, one of our favourite spots in Halifax, where we load up on fruit, bakery goods, drinks and treats and take them to the roof, laze in an Adirondack chair and gaze at the awesome view of Georges Island. This made a great viewing point for the ships that day too and we watched a few pass us by while we enjoyed our finds. After a lovely laze in the sun we set off to walk the waterfront and go on board a few of the ships. We went aboard the American ship which gave an amazing otherworldly view of the shore with all these old fashioned ships. It was quite the sight. Levi was completely in his element and went aboard a few others too. It was a lovely way to spend a Saturday and we ended another beautiful day with an cows ice cream (Claimed to be best in the world...good but debatable).
We had a few other opportunities to see the ships. We dropped in one night with Dad after we had visited the temple and that gave a while new perspective. We also took our friends Kali and Jake down when they were visiting on the day the ships departed and ate fish and chips while everyone waved them off. I'm really glad we were here in Halifax to see such a cool events, so perfectly Maritimes.
