Show Time { Maitland Show 2025 }

We went all in with the Maitland Show this year and it was a big one! Ribbons, prizes, 1st places and even a a $100 prize. This year had it all and we loved being apart of it. The competitions give us some fun things to focus on over the holidays, crafting and creating and this was our first year entering the horses which is something I have dreamed of doing.

'Reading is Magic' { Book Week 2024 }

Another book week roles around and it was all systems go in the Catton household. I love it and it's the one dress up celebration I really get behind so we tend to go all out. We are book week purest, the character has to have originated from a book and the kids spend the month before thinking up and planning their costumes. I think they did great this year!

Show Time { Maitland Show 2024 }

We've been waiting a good ol' while to participate in the local show. I thought we'd get the chance in Bungendore but weather, covid and cancellation meant that in the 5 years we were we never got the chance. Moving to the Hunter I was so excited for us to participate in the Maitland Show and we had such a great time preparing entries and attending over the weekend.

Big School

The Big Day has finally arrived! Quill has started Kindergarten at St Patrick's Lochinvar. He has been excited for months, with all sorts of transition days and great preparation at preschool and club. He had no trouble at all marching straight into class after an extra long hug with mum, The first week we started with just half days and by the second week he was catching the bus too and from and handling it all like a pro.

Tis' the Season

This Christmas season was probably the most magical that I can remember. After two years of cancelled plans, Covid lockdowns and home schooling I had lots of motivation to reflect on how I wanted life to look once the world opened up to us again. I really wanted to get out there and have lots of fun and I felt this really strong pull to connect with old friends and new.

The Great Blanket Jacket Project

A little thought led to a BIG project for me this year. I saw a cute little kids jacket made from very nostalgic '1980's Australia' wool blankets and had the thought that often leads to big things for me 'I can make that'. And that was it. It turned into a whole family affair, Dad scouring op shops for blankets, mum picking them up from peoples houses, Courtney searching high and low. They all turned up a rainbow of colours and I had all I needed (almost) to make over 50 coats and vests for some very happy customers. We had blankets being washed and dried, cut and sewn all over the house for the next three months, all culminated in a market stall at the Bungendore Showground.

March for Justice

It's not often that you have the opportunity to make a public stand for something you believe in. The violence against women scourge on this country reached boiling point this year with historic rape allegations against Christian Porter, Brittany Higgins stepping coming forward to tell her story and Grace Tame's brave campaign. It all just brought to the the public eye what is raging in every day Australia - violence, perpetrated predominately by men against women and children. The March for Justice was a chance to add my voice, my heartbreak, my anger to the chorus of other Australian women and men who believe enough is enough.

Count to Five

Finley is five! And five means big things. It means school is fast approaching, that Finley is starting to read and write, that he gets to have his room rearranged and that he now has a big boys bike. Finley has taken turning five very seriously. Of his own accord he is attempting to stop sucking his fingers when he goes to bed, to say to his own prayers each night, to not complain and to do his best at listening. And he is doing great!

Pass the Pretzels

Blanche is brilliant. She should be known as Blanche THE Brilliant. One of the many reasons I love her is her commitment to throwing a party, an authentic party...no detail unthought of, no store unsearched, no hours unworked to create the real deal. I was lucky enough to attend the fourth and final Nova Scotia Oktoberfest party, which has legend status for authentic German food (handmade mind you by Blanche herself) and Blanche getting fairly drunk with 100% of the guests present being mormon - what a combo! This year did not disappoint. My favourites were the pretzels and fries. I bow down to you Blanche, queen of throwing a party xx
