Little Lily { 2021 }

A lot happens in a year when you are a baby. So much growing up and our little Lily has gone from our babe in arms to our adventurous toddler with personality in spades. She is so full of life and seems to have walked and talked quicker than the rest in hopes to catch up to them. She is little and fierce. She knows exactly what she wants and she has five people at her disposable for all her dreams to be fulfilled.

Little Man Quill { 2021 }

A lot happens in a year when you are two! We've seen Quill come more into his own little self at preschool and in primary where he is universal loved by everyone. Adults really gravitate to Quill, he is very affectionate, friendly and open with people and charms them immediately. He also has a very special relationship with Grandma. All of this makes us very happy as at home, fighting for place as Number 3. (I can relate) does not always go smoothly for him, so it's lovely that everywhere else he is Number 1.

Miss Primrose { 2021 }

Our lovely girl is growing up. Another year has passed and she is the same special girl that brings so much peace and joy to our family. She is everyone's best friend, so kind hearted and thoughtful and with each year her personality grows and shines even brighter.

Mr Finley { 2021 }

Finley is growing rapidly these days and this year we've really seen the transition to a new stage. That desire and ability for some independence, making firm friends, finding a real sense of self and recognising strengths and weaknesses. It hasn't been an easy year with covid interrupting much of normality but Finley did well through some of the disappointments, taking it all in his stride and finding lots of comfort in a good book.

What a Year { 2021 }

This past year was a really full and amazing year. Especially for me personally. There was something about the effects of the pandemic that flicked a switch in me. Even though we still had a long lockdown during the year, life gradually approached normality and I was eager to get back to it. With the kids getting older and life settling more into its rhythms, there was room for me to take on some projects and go after things that have meaning for me. When I think back on the year, it was a great one with some local getaways, so many good times as a family and with friends and lots of goals met.

Ryan Week

Together at last. It was a joyful reunion as the Tate and Hanna Ryan's joined us at Mum and Dad's in Sydney for a week together as a family. There were hugs all round with cousins gleefully embracing and getting right into play, while the siblings all took each other in with excited conversation of all that's been and will be. It was a full house with all the kids sleeping in the upstairs lounge room for the ultimate sleepover. We were very keen to make good plans and enjoy the time we had together to the fullest.

Oh Christmas Tree

Mum and dad had a very full house for Christmas with Courtney, the Catton's and the Tate and Hanna Ryan's. It made for many presents under the tree, lots of food, playing games and relaxing - just how we like Christmas day to be.

Tis' the Season

This Christmas season was probably the most magical that I can remember. After two years of cancelled plans, Covid lockdowns and home schooling I had lots of motivation to reflect on how I wanted life to look once the world opened up to us again. I really wanted to get out there and have lots of fun and I felt this really strong pull to connect with old friends and new.

Besties in Kiama

I feel very lucky to have found Sig and Sarah. Our time together is always lovely and so reminiscent of the early days of our friendship where we spent day after day in each others company. As our families grow we decided to plan an annual trip together to make sure we keep the connection and have some fun time together as families. This year we chose Kiama and the fates were in our favour as Sydney was in lockdown, but the regions weren't. We were able to keep our plans but we basically had the holiday park completely to ourselves. We had beach front cabins and the weather was just perfect for us, so wins all around.

1, 2, Quill turns 3 !

Our little boy is 3! Quill is such a character. We are right in the two's going on three's and it's a big mixed bag of laughs, cries, joys and frustrations. He is so much fun, especially when he is outside exploring the world, shadowing Levi. riding his balance bike and feeling on top of the world. He is always so friendly and will say hello and goodbye to everyone he sees and makes friends with all the neighbours. Quill is last in line for the family birthdays of the year so he has waited patiently for this day to come.

Capturing the Cattons

An opportunity came up to have a family photoshoot with a photographer I really admire, Sarah Black . She shoots with film and I really love her candid style and the raw quality of her pictures, they remind me of pictures my mum use to take when I was little. I know that the days are long but the years are short with little kids and I really want to capture my children  in their childhood and our family at this chaotic but beautiful time in our lives.

Lily + Quill

These are my littles. Sometimes, for just a moment it feels like deja vu but quickly their little personalities dispel the illusion. Lily and Quill are most certainly their own people With only twenty months between them they were fast friends from the start and are great comrades. Quill is very loving and protective of his sister, though easily frustrated by things that he himself was doing only a few months ago. Carefully laid out toys get disrupted, towers get knocked over, Lily is into everything and always wants to be apart of the fun. She lights us when she sees Quill and loves to chase him and crawl all over him. They are the most gorgeous pair and they are lovely to watch together. They are both lucky to have older siblings who dote on them and tolerate them in equal measure and a mum who has learned a little more patience and to hold on to these precious little days before they slip away.

My darling Lily and Quill, I want to hold this memory, these days in my mind always.

A Snowy Adventure

With a big birthday on the horizon for Levi I got to thinking about what adventure we could take to make it really special for him. You don't turn 40 every day and there are some perks to having a winter birthday ... snow. Levi really enjoys skiing but doesn't get the opportunity very often so I set about planning a winter long weekend for him to remember.

Blonde Little Berry

I can hardly look at my little Lily without feeling a rush of emotion. I am just so glad she is here and that she is mine. Part of what I feel and marvel at is that hard-made decisions can lead to so much peace and joy. She knew that she needed to come to us and what she would bring to our family. She didn't let me forget it though the months of trying to make a decision about having another baby. That gentle whisper, that niggling thought, led us to the moment, a year ago where she came into our world. It was beautiful for Levi and I to welcome our last baby, a little, tiny, piece of heaven and know that our family was complete.

You are ours and we are yours sweet Lily.

Sweet as One

Our baby girl is ONE! Wow it's gone so fast. From tiny fingers and toes, cuddles and snuggles and sleeping in my arms, to crawling and squirming, messy hands and face and kisses with a bit of bite. This little, gorgeous person is an absolute light to our family. We all adore her and soak in every new milestone, every gorgeous little attribute and shower her with endless love.

This Girl is Six

Primrose could not wait for her birthday to come. If I had my way I'd keep her just a little longer at every age but she is so thrilled for life to march ahead and discover what is around every corner. Whenever I tell her I wish I could keep her little forever she says 'mum, but you've still got Lily, you'll be alright'. This girl is so independent and content, she doesn't really need the rest of us but I'm glad she keeps us around all the same.

The Great Blanket Jacket Project

A little thought led to a BIG project for me this year. I saw a cute little kids jacket made from very nostalgic '1980's Australia' wool blankets and had the thought that often leads to big things for me 'I can make that'. And that was it. It turned into a whole family affair, Dad scouring op shops for blankets, mum picking them up from peoples houses, Courtney searching high and low. They all turned up a rainbow of colours and I had all I needed (almost) to make over 50 coats and vests for some very happy customers. We had blankets being washed and dried, cut and sewn all over the house for the next three months, all culminated in a market stall at the Bungendore Showground.

Birthday in Bowral

We decided on a girl’s day in Bowral to celebrate Courtney turning 29. Lily, Primrose and I, caught the early morning train together to meet up with mum and Courtney in Bowral for breakfast, lunch, bakery and shop perusing. Bowral is the perfect little town nestled amongst gorgeous countryside. Just the spot for some relaxed time together.

Horray! Finley is Nine

Finley is nine ! How have so many years past? We are starting to get that feeling that we are on the doorstep of those tween and soon to be teen years. It does really feel like these last childhood days are upon us with backyard parties exchanged for late overs with pizza and a movie and little kids playing games to these nine year old talking about who knows what? Finley is taking it all in his stride. Our just turned nine year old is coming into his own.

Easter and The Show

Easter is my absolute favourite holiday and this last one was one to remember. It was on the tail end of a special surprise visit from Shannon and his family for mum’s birthday. After months of covid lockouts they were able to visit and we spent a wonderful few days with them. We stayed on in Sydney for Easter and I decided at the last minute to go to the Easter show with Dad and the older two kids while Levi went on a full day hike with lots of other family members.

The Sydney Surprise

With Covid turning lots of the Ryan family get together plans up side down we were all keen to make sure we got together at the first opportunity. Shannon thought up the plan to surprise mum for her birthday in Sydney and I helped to orchestrate the meet up. We met the Ryan family at Circular Quay and it couldn't have been more perfect!

March for Justice

It's not often that you have the opportunity to make a public stand for something you believe in. The violence against women scourge on this country reached boiling point this year with historic rape allegations against Christian Porter, Brittany Higgins stepping coming forward to tell her story and Grace Tame's brave campaign. It all just brought to the the public eye what is raging in every day Australia - violence, perpetrated predominately by men against women and children. The March for Justice was a chance to add my voice, my heartbreak, my anger to the chorus of other Australian women and men who believe enough is enough.

A Trip to the Coast

We took a little get away in February to explore more of the South Coast. Now that we are in Canberra there are lots of new places for us to discover and plenty of coastline to explore. We decided on a sleepy little town called Tuross Head and had a cabin right on the beach. Nothing like waking up to that view and the sounds of the ocean. We were very lucky that even though the forecast said rain we had a great first day in the water. The kids love every minute of being at the beach and with the calm bay were able to have a go kayaking and using their body boards. Beach days really are the best days.

Big School Here She Comes

Never has a little girl been more ready for school! Primrose has been waiting patiently these last 6 months and when the day finally arrived she was so excited. She had her bag and clothes all laid out and ready and some special jitter glitter to help her sleep the night before. She woke up very ready and bursting to get out the door.

Need I Say More { 2020 }

We started this year clouded in smoke from raging bushfires and ended it separated from family because of a pandemic ... so it's been a bit of a year. 2020 will likely go down as one of the most difficult years of our generation. And although challenging for us in some ways, we've had some wonderful things happen too and lots in between. Life goes on and for that I am very grateful.
