Finley's Time to Shine

Finley was very excited about the prospect of school, though his excitement was hindered somewhat by his nervousness as the day drew closer. He isn't quite sure with new experiences but as he has grown he has learnt that being brave has lots of benefits, mainly that you end up having a great time! And soon enough in every experience Finley is the most confident kid there is. 

Leading up to the start of school we made all the preparations. He picked a school bag, a special shirt for his first day, we gathered all the school supplies and had his name tag ready and teachers name, Mrs Mee's memorized. With pancakes for breakfast and Mum, Dad and Grandma with him we made our way to school for his first big day. He did so well! A few tears, but in the end settled right in at his desk and soon enough he was king of the class as I well knew he would be.

Finley's 5th year has been all about big milestones. Before school started he learned to ride his bike without training wheels, with Grandpa as teacher. He became a very confident swimmer over the summer and can swim 15 m and tread water for 10 seconds. He can read very well for his age, reading books to Primrose and also enjoying chapter books read to him by Mum and Dad. He had learn't to make himself toast, eat correctly with a knife and fork and shovel our deck of snow without being asked. He is becoming quite the little man, with so much personality, thoughts, feelings, views and appreciation for life.

Some other wonderful things in his 5th year include becoming a Beaver Scout, where he attends weekly meetings and gets to do/make/see/learn some incredible things, as well as experiencing his first Scout camp with Dad. Giving talks and sharing scriptures in Primary has helped him to become confident and have a real interest in learning about the scriptures. He also loves the primary songs and asks to watch talks from conference every Sunday afternoon. Finley has learned to draw too and colour very well and gets right into art and craft. 

This boy of ours is his own person through and through. He has a definite sense of who he is and where he is going which can challenge us, however we know that those traits grow little boys into determined and focused young men. We all love you Finley Ryan Catton.
