Spring is a foggy, rainy, muddy time in Nova Scotia with the occasional warm, sunny day that gives you hope that summer is not too far away. Those first buds on the trees, the tiny sprouts pushing their way through the dirt bring so much joy and hope. And soon enough those early signs bloom into a technicoloured array that makes you forget the months of white and grey just passed.
We were lucky enough to have a well established garden at our home, and I loved that first spring watching the blooms pop up and surprise us with their beauties. There were day lily's, tulips and peonies, tulips, daffodils, iris's, bell flowers, false indigo, cone flowers, sea holly, a beautiful weeping yellow forsythia and a huge purple Rhododendron at the back of our house. All were gorgeous and contributed to a spring wonderland for us to enjoy.
I loved watching everything around us burst into life and all around the neighbourhood amazing gardens and trees began to bloom. Spring, with it's new life and hope was such a highlight of Nova Scotia. I can remember the huge and beautiful cherry tree at the end of the street with huge pink bursting flowers the only lasted a few weeks but made my heart sing every time I passed it, or the lupins or fox gloves that pop up all all the road sides and bring hues of pink and purple to every drive you take.
Spring in Nova Scotia is stunning and it will be in my minds eye always with it's bursting colour and vibrance that marked the start of something new.
