What a summer! Probably the best in memory. We had the Ryan cousins come and stay at Avonlea for a full two weeks and it was one big, long, fun sleepover. The days were warm and many adventures were had. The project of the summer was making a movie - written and directed by Tristan Ryan, cast - the cousins. I caught snippets of the action as it was filmed at the river and the dam and helped them acquire a cow skull as a prop but truly have absolutely no idea what it is about. We eagerly await the release!
We had perfect sunny, summer days one after the other. We spent hours at the river, exploring further upstream than we had ever been before and after all the rain through the year, the river was a great depth for swimming and playing. The kids discovered a little sand dune that they turned into a slide, landing in the water, inventing more and more outlandish ways to slide down it. That became the find of the summer. There was plenty of swimming in the spa and the dam too. Some dam side wrestles took place, with the mma boys always victorious much to Finley's annoyance.
The Clarke family joined us for a few days, growing the kid tribe to 10! It was a crew that's for sure. They all ate, slept and played together all day long. We took them out to the drive-in for a fun night snuggled under the stars, eating snacks and watching the movie.
It was Tristan's dream to go ice-skating, so to end the trip we made that a reality. It was very fun to see all the kids out on the ice and they made incredible progress by the end of the session, skating around with so much confidence.
I love seeing all of the cousins together. They are a beautiful bunch of kids, they have such great bonds between them. The farm makes for a wonderful backdrop for all of the adventures. Glad to be facilitating such a fun summer for them.
