We went all in with the Maitland Show this year and it was a big one! Ribbons, prizes, 1st places and even a a $100 prize. This year had it all and we loved being apart of it. The competitions give us some fun things to focus on over the holidays, crafting and creating and this was our first year entering the horses which is something I have dreamed of doing.
Primrose and Quill rode in the horse classes with Porridge and Flash. Primrose had the day off school Friday to enter the Pony Club classes and we are starting to get to know the other riding families so had a nice day catching up. It was a scorching hot day but Primrose rode well and came away with lots of ribbons and a great first time experience at a show. After the riding finished we bought exorbitantly priced slurpies, went for a walk around the show and got to see all of her entries and wins in the exhibitions. Primrose is the best big sister and was so happy for all of her siblings wins. We had lots of fun together on the dodgem cars and then went home for a big rest before doing it all again the next day.
On Saturday Quill joined us for the fun day riding classes. We had made bride and groom outfits for Porridge and Flash for the fancy dress classes but lost out to a ned kelly horse! lol. It wasn't quite so hot so the kids lasted really well for the riding. At the end of the classes Levi joined us with Finley and Lily to have some fun at the show. We went on the dodgem cars again, a family favourite, and the kids had fun on the rollercoasters - the kids prize money funds the rides so it's a good deal all round. A highlight of the show is finding all of our entries and what we came. This year we didn't do so well in the cooking, but Primrose took our first in every category she entered in the craft. I got a second place for knitting and sewing. The big win this year was the colouring competition where the prize was $100. Our miss Lily came first in her age category and we were thrilled for her! She bought a unicorn toy with her prize money and donated the rest to the bunny fund. Finley also took out the teenage champion ribbon for his entries in the horticulture section and won a voucher for flower power. Primrose did really well in horticulture too and won a gift card. This was our favourite category this and we want to submit a few more entries next year.
We love being a part of the show and enjoying a fun part of country life. We've learnt a few things about what we love to do and look forward to participating again next year.
