There is so much to see and do in Halifax in the summer and no Halifax visit is complete without Peggy's Cove. It's the most photographed lighthouse in Canada and a beautiful place to explore. It still holds on to it's quaintness as a little east coast fishing village despite the incredible amount of tourists who make their way through it. The kids had lots of fun playing on the rocks even with a few puddle falling incidents. The rocks are so unique and it's a beautiful place to walk around and gaze out on the Atlantic ocean. One of my favourite things at Peggy's Cove are the Lobster rolls which we had for our lunch after wandering through the little town and taking in the beautiful views of fishing life on the coast.
Being 8 months pregnant during this visit I was happy when Tate and Hanna suggested taking the kids into the city while I had a rest. The spent the rest of the afternoon walking the board walk and eating ice cream, then visiting the citadel where Primrose lost her mind at the cannons shooting! The boys loved dressing up as soldiers and came home telling me of all the fun that they had. The afternoon was for swimming and playing. So much fun to be had right at our doorstep. Levi and I had tickets that night to see Shakespeare by the Sea but it got completely rained out so we opted for the movies instead and had a great night together.
The next day was our day to travel south and see the beautiful coast near Lunenburg. We decided to explore The Ovens which had been on my bucket list and was well worth the visit. We took the trail that led to various sea caves, so unique and different and very beautiful. It was just the right length for the kids, with lots of interesting things to see on the way. I really loved the colour of the rocks and the crystal blue of the ocean, it would be a wonderful place to kayak, maybe one day! We had a light lunch there and then headed to Sand Dollar Beach, which unfortunately had no sand dollars to be seen, and then on into Lunenburg to try some fish chowder, another must try east coast food. Lunenburg is always such a lovely place to visit. The board walk is dotted with interesting boats and looking up to the beautiful colours of the town make it so picturesque and lovely. We had a wander and then carried on to Mahone Bay for ice cream at The Scoop before heading home for more swimming and playing. That night Hanna and I went to the temple together which was a beautiful and precious experience. I'm always so inspired by Hanna's faith, she is such an example to me and I'm so grateful to have her as my sister.
