Bungendore is lucky enough to have it's own historic train station, which still has trains run through it travelling from Sydney to Canberra and return. Four trains a day pass through and it has been a point of excitement for the kids who ask it we can ride it every time is passes by. So when the Easter holidays arrived and Grandma and Grandpa were visiting we decided to take the train in and meet Levi for afternoon tea in the park.
Great idea right? Well we were excited. The train workers were less excited we we bustled onto a busy long haul train, with barely a seat to spare without tickets or much of a plan. Opps. We will know for next time. It also turns out that people who have been on a train for 3 hours aren't the friendliest of people ... so we sat and looked out the window quietly, careful not to disturb until we arrived at our destination. The ride is beautiful and affords some great scenery, not seen from the road.
We met Levi at a nearby park, he came baring bakery goods and some energy which were much appreciated. We explored the little park with him, ate and played, and then he set off back to work and us back to the train to make our way home. The ride back was great fun as the train was virtually empty. We traveled back right at dusk, so the kangaroo's were out in force, they even chased along next to the train multiple times which was very fun to watch.
It was a short little trip but a lovely one. A nice little experience of local history in our new town that we adore.
