With my baby sister turning 30 we needed something very special to mark the day and a little get away with all of the women in our family felt like just the thing. Timing for mum's 70th meant that we could spend a few days away just the 7 of us before being met by the rest of the family in Ulladulla. Berry was the perfect fit for a relaxing few days doing some of the things Courtney loves and celebrating what a beautiful and treasured person she is to us. And really, we can't believe she is 30! Still my little sister forever.
To begin our little sojourn I caught the train to Bowral to meet Courtney. I absolutely love that train ride and after weeks of planning it was lovely to unwind on the journey and get ready for the wonderful week ahead. I picked up Courtney's succulent birthday cupcakes early before I left and juggled them successful all the way to Berry which was no mean feat. Courtney met me and we found a perfect café for a long lazy breakfast before we went exploring at Dirty Jane's and hunting for a hairdresser to cut Courtney's fringe. We had planned to drive through to the Kangaroo Valley where we often camped as kids but the road were washed out, so we headed straight for Berry cautiously through the rain. We made it to our accommodation at the Milk Wood Barn which was picture perfect and the most beautiful place to nestle in for the rainy weather. The details at the house were gorgeous, at every turn there was so much thought put it. There were huge windows looking out across the lush lawn, with exposed beams and loft bedrooms - such a cosy home. Gradually the others arrived, we shared a lovely home cooked meal from mum, sang happy birthday to Courtney, shared her cupcakes, attempted to light the unlightable fire and caught up for our first night together. We also watched the special video Shannon had made for Courtney with videos and pictures of her life. Lots of tears shed.
The next morning we were up early for yoga with our instructor who came to the house. That was lovely and a beautiful way to start the day. We ate yogurt and muesli with berries for breakfast and then the weather broke long enough for us to have a lovely walk on the property. We climbed the treehouse and explored some of surrounds then we all headed into Nowra to go to an old school cinema The Roxy to see Belfast. We found the perfect little place for lunch in Berry after and then had a explore of the town. The homewares and teashop there are gorgeous and even with the drizzle it was lovely wandering this the town. We headed back to the Milk Wood Barn for a lazy afternoon before getting all dolled up for dinner at The Garden back in town. Lots of photo's to mark the occasion. We had a long, lovely meal together, talking and catching up, hearing everyone's news and all that's happening in everyone's lives. A little gelato for dessert and then we were home for some sleep after a beautiful and full day.
In the morning we took our time reading and relaxing, sipping tea and eating breakfast before we needed to pack up and see goodbye to the beautiful Milk Wood Barn. We headed into town for some hot chocolate and donuts from the famous Berry van before we headed on to meet all our families in Ulladulla.
We had such a beautiful stay together in celebration of Courtney's 30th. She is such a light in all our lives and I'm so glad we were able to take the time to celebrate this big milestone in her life in such a memorable way. Beautiful time together doing beautiful things.
