Growing up, keeping busy and navigating big changes. Finley has had a great big year and we are proud of him and the determination and resilience we have seen him develop. He turned 11 this year, tried some new things, excelled at some old favourites, completed Year 5, moved house, said goodbye's and started at a new school. There has been some tears but he is settling into this wonderful new life in the country and loving all the new experiences it brings.
Soccer was the main game this year. Finley has found a love for playing goalie and did great last season. His team won all games except one and they were thrilled about it. Next year he will trade in his red and black for purple and play for the Lochinvar Rovers. Finley continued with swimming and did really well in swim club, winning lots of medals. He excels at butterfly which is pretty remarkable to us! He also dealt really well with an injustice that occurred when in came to crowing the club champion. I'm proud that he was able to respond the way he did and learn a life lesson. He continues with riding and had a go at jump club, where Porridge was universally adored. He did great. He also made it to district cross country after coming 6th in his age group in the school run and gave dirt biking ago which he loved.
Finley had a great year learning the guitar with Lachie and even performing at a local open mic night and the Catton talent show for my birthday. He has been really happy at Bungendore Public, he loves Maths and Stem and was chosen to compete in Tournament of Minds and Davinci Decathalon which were great experiences. He won the school handball competition too! Settling into his new school, St Patrick's Lochinvar has had it bumps but he has really enjoyed catching the bus too and from school, making friends with the neighbourhood kids and performing as the Mad Hatter in the Year 5 performance of Alice in Wonderland. He has made some good friends at school and is looking forward to his last year of primary. He is still an avid reader and we all love making use of the local library to keep us in books.
We love to see Finley really getting into the things he loves - like our resident bunnies, chickens, planes and anything plane related, mowing the lawn on the ride on mower, diving under waves at the beach, saving a ball from going into the goals. Finley is growing up before our eyes and we know that soon enough we will have a teenager in the house. For now we are happy to keep him little just one year longer.
